06 Feb Manufacturing the supersize Gatwick Travel Information Totem with Adxba
This month we’re excited to share one of the largest metal totem displays we’ve manufactured. This large airport information totem stands at 2.69 meters tall, and contains a range of grained stainless steel and satin black effect powder coated metal work.
We were contacted by our client (Adxba, specialists in display information boards) to help design and manufacture their newest commission to go into Gatwick Airport to display live travel information. The process started with our CAD Design Manager discussing the needs for the totem and any specific electronic considerations from the integrated monitors and systems networking kit.
He then took their designs, and developed them for best quality manufacturing. Crafting a few tweaks here and there allowed for a better fabrication of the display stand, while giving added value manufacturing to the customer.
The freestanding unit consisted of 11 layers of metalwork, which had to be intricately designed to tight tolerances so it would neatly fit together around the electronics to be housed inside, with a seamless look and feel.
To get a sense of scale, here’s our CAD Design Manager, Johnny, in front of the part-completed display stand before it was finished in our assembly department, and then collected by Adxba.
So, the next time you’re travelling from Gatwick, have a look out for our travel information totem in the walkway!
